Be Still

This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s’

  • 2 Chronicles 20:15

And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord… The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

  • Exodus 14:13–14

The weight is crushing, it takes me to my knees
I gather my strength but little remains
A soul divided, torn and frayed
Strength I trusted slips away

Be still, be still
Be still, be still

I’m carrying the weight, my back breaks in the strain
I swore I was strong, but I can’t bear the flames
Every step I take, the ground shakes beneath
This war will not end, the chains won’t release

I’ve swung my fists, I’ve bled the ground
But every victory breaks me down
Strength runs dry, yet I remain
Held in a hand that won’t let me fade

Be still, be still
Be still, be still

I’m carrying the weight, my back breaks in the strain
I swore I was strong, but I can’t bear the flames
Every step I take, the ground shakes beneath
But the war is not mine, and the chains will release

I’ve stood in the ruin, I’ve screamed in the night
But a strength beyond mine still holds the fight
I wait in the silence, I will not decay
The victory is His, and the darkness gives way

No more running, no escape
The silence commands, the shadows break
No more striving, no more war
The battle is His, forevermore

I’m carrying the weight, my back breaks in the strain
I swore I was strong, but I can’t bear the flames
Every step I take, the ground shakes beneath
But the war is not mine, and the chains will release

I’ve stood in the ruin, I’ve screamed in the night
But a strength beyond mine still holds the fight
I wait in the silence, I will not decay
The victory is His, and the darkness gives way

Be still, be still
Be still, He is near
